This gorgeous Maine Coon kitten's name is Antares. I trapped him last Tuesday from a feral colony nearby to my home. We intended to TNR (trap-neuter-return) him, and he's been neutered and eartipped - we snip off the tip of their left ear to identify "fixed" feral cats - don't worry, it's done under anesthesia and is totally painless. Anyhow, he turned out to be "not really feral" - was very friendly, even though he's well past the optimal age for taming. So, we've got him in a cage, he's "taming up" nicely, and we'll put him in our rescue group's adoption program soon.

One of the 8 adoptable kittens I've trapped in the last week. Rock ON - that's a lot of future kittens prevented!

The ones who are really wild and can't be tamed and adopted, we just spay/neuter them, vaccinate them, and return them to the colony. Best way to manage feral cats!

The missing left eartip is a nationally (U.S.) recognized identifier for spayed/neutered feral cats, so if you see cats in your neighborhood with a clipped ear, you know they're vaccinated and fixed, and that someone in your area is with our cause - please help them!

Removing and killing feral cats does NOTHING to control population. All it does is free up territory for MORE cats to move in. TNR establishes stable, non-breeding colonies. They just hang around and help rid your neighborhood of rats and mice. Support TNR!

A bit scruffy but still cute. Totally for TNR. :)

Yup, they all look a little thin & scruffy when we trap 'em! I've had him on high-protein kitten food and antibiotics for a few days now, and he's looking a LOT better, his fur is getting nicer by the day. I'll post some new pictures in a week or so when he looks fat, happy, and fluffy...

Awesome, sweet kitten, this little guy. So friendly, he's really one of our "good luck" stories. We didn't have to return him to the feral colony. He'll be easily adoptable. I'd keep him myself if I didn't already have 8 cats!

Go TNR!
