Hey, thanks, Girly-Girl! You're much too kind...

Ah, but isn't it a tendency of ALL artists to undervalue and over-criticize their own work? I was once a pretty highly trained musician, might have gone professional, but I was always WAY too hard on myself, and I let my talent go, stopped practicing...

Hmmm...

Yeah. Everyone is always so hard on themselves, but I think a lot of the time it's a self-mechanism to make yourself drive harder to suceed. However, a lot of the time it backfires, haha.

You ought to pick up being a musician again. :D What instrument did you play?

Yeah, it's true. I just pulled out a CD of demo songs I did about 5 years ago, and some of them aren't actually that bad. I wish I could still play guitar like I did back then.

I used to play guitar and keys primarily, but I can make coherent noise on just about any instrument. I also sing, which is the one thing I still do. I've belonged to various choirs for a long time.

You ought to practice! It all comes back to ya.
Guitar is really cool. I can play a pitiful tune or two on it, lol. I used to be fluent in piano, but since one of my accidents, I've lost the ability to do it so well, haha.

Lucky, you could sing. Lots of girls dig that, hah.

Yeah, getting back into music. It's a matter of time, and frankly, of inspiration. Been kinda depressed lately. I know it would come back easily, but it would be a bunch of painful work to get back to the level I was at.

What happened that made you lose your piano ability? I have a friend who was once an up-and-coming concert pianist. He was totally brilliant. Then he got Guillaume-Barre syndrome. It destroyed his nervous system. He was in a wheelchair for a long time, and has severe movement and coordination problems now. Needless to say, he can no longer play the piano. Tragic, really.

I do like to sing. I sing in the local Unitarian church choir, and really any other chance I get. I'm singing at an ecumenical service for Thanksgiving. It'll be nice because we're doing some real "God music". Unitarians, being a pretty liberal/pro-gay/feminist/pagan bunch, don't usually sing much traditional church music, but I really like a lot of it. Bach is fun, even if he does actually mention God and Jesus (gasp!) a lot...

The fact that lots of girls like musicians is definitely one of the reasons I got into it in the first place! ;-) I had this conversation a lot when I was in college:

(Punk girl I met in the Student Union on Friday afternoon) "So, what are you studying?"

(Me) "I'm a music major, and I'm minoring in visual arts."

(Punk girl) "Wow, that's SO cool! You wanna stop by my dorm and drink some Captain Morgan's? Bring your guitar! My roommate's gone skiing all weekend..."

Etc, etc...

I had more fun in college than should be legal. Well, a lot of it wasn't actually legal, but you get the point...

When I was in the 8th grade, I got hit by a car and sustained a bit of nerve damage from it, and it's deabilitated the reflexes in my left hand quite a bit. I mean, it's gotten better over the years (or I've just adapted to it, I'm not sure which), but yeah. I'm familiar with Guillaume-Barre, my dad had that (and made a full recovery which was a miracle, but now he's got brain cancer).

Chicks always dig musicians. It's probably a standard for a lot of them, haha.

I wish I could have fun in college. My classmates are, for the most part, way too different than I am. I'm afraid if I chilled with some of them, I'd end up getting beat up, mugged, and/or involved in some sort of drama or gang-war. I don't go to the most cultured of institutions.

Wow! That's harsh. Where was the injury? I mean, was it to your hand/arm, or more central, like a head injury?

I THINK it was Guillaume-Barre that my friend had. That sounds right. Whatever it was, it trashed his entire nervous system. He's in awful pain a lot of the time, too, and has to take loads of morphine and stuff like that. He smokes lots of weed, too, and is constantly breaking glass pipes because he has trouble holding things and keeping his coordination, so he drops them. I keep telling him he just needs to get a metal one!

Yeah, I don't know why girls like musicians so much, but lots of them seem to! When I was in high school, I was definitely a punk, but I was also pretty geeky. I was in band and drama club. I used to love listening to all the jock boys bragging about this girl or that girl and what they wanted to do with her, etc..., knowing it was all a load of complete bullshit, just a lot of talk. They had NO idea how much fun us theater dorks were having! They had no idea how lame their parties were compared to ours!

Where do you go to college? That's really scary - sounds like it has some pretty ghetto people who go there! The college I graduated from (I went to 3 schools over the years) had a big criminal justice program, so a lot of my fellow students were on their way to becoming cops. You'd think it would be scary, but most of them were really cool. It made me realize that most cops don't start out being cynical and mean. They get that way because of all the jerkwads they have to deal with day in and day out. You couldn't pay me enough to be a cop. What an awful, tough job...

It's the aftermath of a head injury. After the initial impact, I hit my head really hard on the concrete. I didn't have that many physical injuries other than soreness in my leg and a grip of scrapes from hitting the floor. I mean, the car wasn't going that fast. I was actually able to get up and walk away from the accident. The numbness developed in the hours afterward.

He should just get a metal one. But those ones fucking hurt if you touch the bowl after lighting it, haha.

I was never really too much into the jocks. My taste definitely falls with the gamers and stoners, haha.

I'm an ex-student at El Camino College, and it's actually not the worst in the area, haha.
