Art vs. Pornography

  • Reading: DA Journals
  • Watching: Nothing
I posted this as a comment on someone else's page, but I like it so much I though I'd post it here...

"Pornography" is a subjective term. Pornography exists solely in the eye of the beholder.

"Art" is not subjective. It's an objective description of any creative work produced by artistic or handicraft techniques. Any formally posed photograph is "art", as is any painting, drawing, macramé wall hanging, or ceramic piece.

Any comparison of "art" and "pornography" is apples to oranges. It's not a valid comparison, since one term is subjective and the other objective. Any work of art may be judged pornographic by a narrow-minded or moralistic observer, but that does not make it so. Art is fact. Pornography is opinion. End of story.

Very Sad & Annoying

I have had to tighten my download policy on all my images. I trust people for the most part, and I trust that people who download and use my shots will give credit where credit is due.

Sadly, this isn't always the case. Today I ran across one of my own photos on another gallery website (which shall remain anonymous), posted as someone else's work without credit - as glaring an example of plagiarism as ever there was. I found it by total coincidence. They didn't just use it without permission. They actually posted it as THEIR photo! It was one of the good ones, and as an amateur photographer, I suppose I'm flattered, but I'm also seriously pissed.

So, I had to go through and laboriously change every one of my deviations to disallow downloading. Sorry.

Let me clarify - nothing I post here should be considered "stock" or "free for anyone to use". I reserve ALL rights for commercial use, and I expect to be asked permission if someone wants to use any of these images for non-commercial purposes. I'm happy for people to use my photos as models for drawings, paintings, and that sort of thing, but I expect to be credited.

Anyone else had this happen? Live and learn, I guess.

Yes! I finally got the time to post a bunch of stuff that's been languishing around my studio on various DVD-ROMs and hard drives for months and years without my DOING anything with it!

I quit smoking over 10 years ago, but I've been hooked on nicotine patches ever since. Now, I'm trying to quit, so I'm going kinda nuts, staying up late working on this stuff...
